Peptic ulcer disease means ulcers in the stomach and initial parts duodenum. It is caused by excessive gastric acid production, H pylori infection and many medicines including pain killers. It is effectively treated by H pylori infection eradication along with acid suppressing medicines.
Constipation, Irritable bowel syndrome and Chronic abdominal pain
Constipation, Irritable bowel syndrome and chronic abdominal pain cause long term physical and psychological suffering. The evaluation of these diseases rely strongly on careful history taking and needs relevant investigations to confirm or
exclude other diseases. Treatment involves dietary modification, psychosocial counseling and medicines.
Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease
These diseases are commonly reported in present times. These are immune mediated diseases. Symptoms vary from diarrhea, bleeding into stools, abdominal pain to intestinal obstruction,
malnutrition, poor quality of life and rarely cancers.
The diagnosis of these diseases needs not only
history taking but also relevant blood, stool tests
including endoscopy and CT scan sometimes.
Treatment has a step wise approach depending on the severity of disease and includes many of the immune suppressing drugs. Regular follow up with doctor for the disease control and to prevent
